Chevrolet being one of the biggest automobile brands in the world decided to collaborate with two of the biggest sport franchises in the world, Manchester United and Liverpool, who are ironically rival clubs playing in the English Premier League.
Chevy and Manchester United:-
In May 2012, Chevrolet replaced Audi as the official car sponsor for one of the biggest football teams, Manchester United. From the 2014-15 season Chevrolet will become the team’s shirt sponsor. A deal that is said to be for seven years. The new shirt sponsorship deal is worth an “incredible” £357million between now and 2021 which is more than double than what their current package brings in.
Chevrolet will be the club’s fifth shirt sponsor in history and the deal is worth well over the £20m per season currently being paid by AON. Speaking about the collaboration Man United’s commercial director Richard Arnold said: “This is a fantastic, long-term deal for the club. We have been partners with Chevrolet for only six weeks, but already they have produced some fantastic ideas that will benefit both the partnership and our 659 million followers around the world. They are a key partner on our current tour and I know they have enjoyed experiencing the buzz generated by our fanatical support and the sell-out crowds in South Africa, China, and Europe.â€
Alan Batey, General Motors’ North America VP of US Sales and Service was quoted saying: “We are extremely proud to connect our brand, Chevrolet, with Manchester United and its passionate supporters all around the world.â€
“Manchester United’s statistics are impressive, but this relationship goes far beyond the numbers – this relationship is about connecting our brand with the deep-seated emotion that surrounds the team everywhere it goes. And, to be only the fifth name on the iconic red jersey is a genuine honour. We very much look forward to the road ahead and the opportunities we have in partnering with such a legendary club.â€
The Chevy – Liverpool Association
Their four-year deal with Liverpool is that of the club’s official car sponsor. The partnership runs to the end of the 2015/16 campaign. Ian Ayre, managing director of the Anfield club, said the deal showed “the value of Liverpool’s international appeal.â€
Chevrolet was also the official sponsor for Liverpool’s North American pre-season tour, which saw them play Toronto FC, AS Roma and Tottenham Hotspurs in the US. In July 2012, Chevrolet and English Premier League football team Liverpool F.C. announced a four-year partnership which would see Chevrolet become the official automotive partner of the club.
