Chevrolet Sells More than 1 Million Beats Worldwide


NEW DELHI – Chevrolet has reached a big number in mini car sales, surpassing 1 million sales worldwide of the Beat which is known as Spark in foreign markets.  This demonstrates the growing acceptance of Chevrolet’s small car lineup attracting more people to the brand around the world.

“Chevrolet Beat, the most fuel-efficient diesel hatchback in India, has been appreciated for its technology and is increasingly selected by young buyers both in India and abroad,” said Arvind Saxena, President and Managing Director, General Motors India.

“Following its huge success in India, the Chevrolet Beat was subsequently launched in other parts of the world,” Saxena added.

The Beat was launched in India in late 2009. It continues to be India’s most efficient diesel hatchback with a mileage of 25.44 kmpl. Available in both petrol and diesel engines, it has sold more than 178,000 units in India alone.

Although it’s a small car, the Beat sports steering-mounted audio controls, height adjustable driver’s seat and an all new silver interior theme. The clear goal from the very beginning was to create a revolution in size and design despite the restrictions being a small car.

Today, the Chevrolet Beat is available in 71 markets worldwide, selling the most in South Korea, followed by the United States and Mexico. In the U.S. sales of the Beat are up 10 percent year to date.

Speaking on the achievement, Alan Batey, Executive Vice President of Global Chevrolet said, “Our small segment vehicles attract more new car buyers to Chevrolet than any other vehicles in the lineup, with more than 60 percent of buyers never owning a Chevy before.”

GM India recently started export of the car from its Talegaon manufacturing facility to Chile in South America. More export markets for the India-made Beat are under presently under consideration.

The Beat, along with the rest of the Chevrolet small car lineup, also attracts the youngest buyers to the brand. This year, sales of Chevrolet small cars have increased more than 9 percent for car buyers under the age of 35.

In 2014, the Beat was the only vehicle in the mini car segment to earn the IIHS Top Safety Pick designation. Lightweight, high-strength steels constitute 60 percent of Beat’s under body and 40 percent of its upper body. It is also used in the roof bow and B-pillars.

Earlier this year, Chevrolet sold its 3 millionth Cruze globally.

Miles to go: Protect your Chevy during the monsoon!

When it rains, it pours! While the monsoon brings with it much needed relief from the heat, it can also result in water clogged and flooded roads. In such scenarios, it’s always better to stay one step ahead of the weather conditions, so that you and your car don’t end up stranded in the rains. Here are some tips that Chevy owners should observe while driving during rough weather conditions:

1.      In flooded waters wherein the level is deep enough to submerge your exhaust pipe, consider taking an alternative route. Attempting to wade through deep water can ruin the electrical systems.

2.      If need be, drive slowly through water-logged areas and put the vehicle into the first gear before entering a flooded area.

3.      Avoid going full throttle while driving through a flooded area, as it may force water to enter the cylinders, causing serious damage to the engine.

4.      Driving through waterlogged roads gets riskier at night as gauging the depth of the water becomes difficult. On such occasions, check the level of the water against dividers, trees, pavements before going ahead.

5.      If the vehicle has broken down and is already submerged in flood water, one can shift the gear to neutral and apply the hand brake before exiting the vehicle. Ensure not to attempt to start the engine even once using the starter or push-start technique. This leads to damaging the engine as water present inside the cylinders cause hydrostatic lock resulting in breakage or bending of connecting rods (internal engine parts).

6.      In case of flooding, the driver should allow the water level to recede and get the vehicle pushed out of water in neutral gear and allow the water to drain out for some time. Avoid starting the engine and call a Chevrolet Authorized Workshop or Contact Chevrolet 24×7 Road Side Assistance 1800-103-8090 or Customer Assistance Toll free number 1800-3000-8080 for immediate support in towing away the vehicle to the Chevrolet workshop.

7.      For hassle-free repair of your Chevrolet vehicle, always keep the Insurance Policy document in a safe, easily accessible location. Note down the policy number to be accessed during the times of need.

8.      In case of Insurance Claim, keep some of the common documents that are required for claims settlement include, claim form duly signed, valid RC copy of the vehicle, valid driving license copy, policy copy etc. You can contact your Chevrolet Dealer for claim processing details.

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND – Chevrolet today added to the excitement of Manchester United’s Premier League season-opener by using the power of play to give Akash and Kshitij, children from New Delhi, India and nine other children from around the world a first-ever, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The global automotive brand surprised everyone by partnering with the club to have each first team player walk onto the pitch wearing a shirt with the name of their mascot on the back, including Akash and Kshitij.  Then just before the start of the match, the players presented the shirts as gifts to them.

“We brought 11 children from around the world to Manchester to let them experience  first-hand how the power of play can create hope, optimism and possibilities not just inside Old Trafford, but back in their communities as well,” said Tim Mahoney, chief marketing officer, Global Chevrolet. “Chevrolet’s partnership with Manchester United is about using the passion for this sport to make a positive impact around the world and inspire football fans everywhere.”

 New Delhi: General Motors India today announced the launch of an industry first customer care initiative called “Chevrolet Complete Care” programme. The comprehensive customer care initiative ensures a unique ownership experience with assured low cost of maintenance for Chevrolet customers across India.

“Customer satisfaction is at the center of everything we do at GM India. More than just their vehicle, it’s the service experience which makes customers feel truly satisfied,” said Arvind Saxena, President & Managing Director of GM India. “With the introduction of ‘Chevrolet Complete Care’ programme, we are offering a never-before unique bouquet of complete-peace-of-mind service offerings to our customers which will include the industry-first Chevrolet Promise – assured low cost of maintenance, Exclusive Warranty packages, Chevrolet U-First Customer Centric Programs and Apps and a Round-the-clock 24×7 Roadside Assistance Program which is free for 3 years with all new car purchases,” he added. Roadside Assistance package is also available for existing customers at a nominal cost provided the vehicle is not more than 5 years old.

Elaborating on the unique Chevrolet Promise, Mr. Saxena said, “The Chevrolet Promise is industry first and remains unique by virtue of our commitment to refund any excess periodic or scheduled maintenance cost at the end of 3 years or 45,000kms, whichever is earlier vis-à-vis the committed periodic maintenance cost to the customer at the time of sale of the car. The Chevrolet Promise is valid for Chevrolet Spark, Beat, Sail Hatchback, Sail Sedan and the Cruze.”

Customers will be offered best-in-class warranty on their Chevrolet vehicles under Extended Warranty. In addition to the standard best-in-class warranty of 1,00,000 kilometers/3 years, customers can extend the warranty of their vehicle by up to two more years or up till 150,000 kilometers at a nominal cost. Apart from the standard and extended warranty for the vehicle, customers will now also be offered warranty on Spare Parts and Accessories for the first year or 20,000 kilometers whichever is earlier.

Free round-the-clock 24/7 Roadside Assistance will be provided to Chevrolet customers in the event of vehicle breakdown or accident for a period of 3 years from the date of purchase of new cars. “The 24/7 Roadside Assistance also provides a host of unique support services such as vehicle towing, flat-tyre change, out of fuel assistance with limited free fuel, key lockout, battery jump-start and taxi benefit for the customers,” Mr. Saxena said.  “Furthermore, under the Chevrolet U-First programme, our women customers [Vehicle registered in the name of Women customers] will be provided free pick up and drop off of their Chevrolet cars for service, by the Chevrolet Authorised Workshops,” Mr. Saxena added.

GM India has also developed digital applications such as the Chevrolet Service Estimator Online tool available on the Chevrolet India website, which helps calculate periodic service costs, and the MyChevroletIndia mobile application, which helps locate & contact the nearest authorized Chevrolet service station. All these packages further improve the overall ownership experience of Chevrolet vehicles under the Chevrolet Complete Care programme.

Chevrolet says ‘No’ to road accidents

Chevrolet, as an active partner of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), has taken the initiative to organize road safety activities during the National Road Safety Week (11th – 17th January 2014).

The activities were undertaken to emphasize on safe driving and spread awareness about road safety.  The theme of this year’s Road Safety Week is, ‘When on the road always say “Pehle Aap”.

Activities include educating customers about traffic rules and signs, a slogan competition as well as special training for drivers on safety. Medical check-ups and eye-sight testing camps were also conducted in workshops and showrooms. Chevrolet also organized customer meets on road safety with the involvement of police, health, information & publicity, education and PWI personnel. Other field agencies like transport authorities, district authorities, voluntary organizations etc., would also be a part of the initiative.

The activities were undertaken by all Chevrolet workshops and showrooms.

Chevrolet Enjoy was honored yet again with the ‘Best MPV of The Year’ award for the second time by coveted automobile publication Car India & Bike India at a glittering ceremony in Mumbai on 15 January, 2014.

The Chevrolet Enjoy had recently bagged the prestigious ‘Best MPV of the Year’ award by Bloomberg TV -Autocar India on 20 December, 2013. The Bloomberg TV- Autocar ‘Car of the Year’ awards recognize the best in automotive excellence across the industry. Winners for these awards are decided annually by international jury panelists and auditors from global consultancy firm KPMG.

Both these awards are crucial as the Chevrolet Enjoy faced stiff competition from other entries such as the Ashok Leyland Stile in the ‘MPV of the Year’ category.

Chevrolet Enjoy was also awarded the ‘Best Integrated Campaign’ award by leading news channel NDTV for the year 2013 in a grand ceremony on January 13, 2014 in New Delhi. The Chevrolet Enjoy ranked best in the category even with stiff competition from other entries such as Honda Amaze and Tata Nano. The event jury consisted of eminent personalities like Dilip Chhabria of DC Design, leading marketer Sam Balsara and Siddharth Patankar, Editor (Auto) for NDTV apart from enthusiasts and aficionados across the automotive sector.

It is noteworthy that the Integrated Launch Campaign for Enjoy was also the launch of Chevrolet’s global ‘Find New Roads’ campaign too which laid the foundation for other carlines in the portfolio to follow. The entire campaign was executed in a record 45 days.

Tips to make traveling safe for your pets

Dog[7]For some, family trips aren’t complete without their pets being part of the fun. But travelling with your pets can get rather stressful at times, for you and your furry companions. There are a few things you can do to assure safe travel for your dear pets.

  • Keep a blanket in the boot and make a place for them to sleep comfortably on the journey. Sleeping is an easy way for dogs to cope with motion sickness.
  • Let them become accustomed to rides in a car. Drive slowly when you start the car. Start with short trips and gradually take them on longer ones.
  • Make sure they don’t jump around the vehicle. Don’t roll down the window all the way and consider buying a pet safety belt. It ensures that in case of an accident, they aren’t displaced around the car.
  • Take regular stops in between and let your pet out for a while. This will keep them relaxed. Try stopping somewhere relatively quiet and away from the road if possible.
  • If you’re taking a long distance trip, you may consider buying a crate and make sure to fasten it either between seats or on the floor.
  • If you stop for food, park in the shade and let the windows down a little to let some cool air in. Keep giving your pet a bowl of water regularly to rehydrate.
  • Feed your pet with a light meal three to four hours before the journey begins. Do not feed them in a moving vehicle – even if it is a long drive.
  • Never leave your pet alone in a parked vehicle. On a hot day, even with the windows open, a car can become a furnace, and your pet can get heatstroke. In winters, a car can act as a refrigerator, holding in the cold and causing them to freeze.
  • Pet travelling kit: Carry food, a waste scoop, bowl, plastic bags, leash, medication, a pet first-aid kit and their favourite toy or pillow to make them feel comfortable.
