General Motors India to launch Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV in 2015 and Spin MPV in 2016

NEW DELHI – GM India announced today that it will introduce the Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV in 2015 and Spin multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in 2016. The news was originally shared with GM India dealers during their annual meeting in Bangkok on February 13.

“GM India’s focus is on significantly expanding its presence in the Indian market by enriching its products, quality and the entire purchasing experience,” said Arvind Saxena, president and managing director, General Motors India. “Our dealers are a big part of ensuring that Chevrolet builds customers for life.”

During the dealer meeting, Arvind Saxena and GM Executive Vice President and GM International President Stefan Jacoby also announced that GM will increase GM India’s export activity. In 2015, the company plans to export around 19,000 cars to nearly 40 countries. A major part of this export activity will be to Mexico and Chile. The company began exporting cars in September 2014. It exported 984 vehicles last year.

“We recognize the growth potential of India and are focused on the fundamentals to ensure long-term sustainability,” said Jacoby. “We know that begins by offering high quality, exciting and competitive products for our customers.”

As part of its commitment to provide customers with a unique ownership experience, GM India has recently introduced the Chevrolet Complete Care programme with assured low cost of maintenance. In all, GM India has 247 sales outlets and 270 service outlets spread throughout the country.

First left-hand-drive Chevrolet Beats headed to Chile

NEW DELHI – General Motors India today announced that it has commenced vehicle exports to Chile. The first 140 left-hand-drive Chevrolet Beats were shipped from the Mumbai Port Trust of Maharashtra on Sept. 25. They are expected to reach Chile in the next few weeks.

“The first shipment of Chevrolet Beats demonstrates our commitment to make our India-built products available in global markets,” said GM India President and Managing Director Arvind Saxena. “We will continue to ship models to Chile on a monthly basis.”

The Beat is produced at GM India’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Maharashtra. ‎Available with gasoline and diesel engines, the Beat is India’s most fuel-efficient hatchback and GM India’s best-selling model. The city car is also built and sold in many other markets around the world. Since its introduction in India in 2010, the Beat has received several honors, including ‘Automotive Technology of the year’ from NDTV Car & Bike for its SMARTECH diesel engine.
Saxena said, “We expect to identify additional export markets going forward. This will help drive capacity utilization at our Talegaon plant.”
As part of GM CEO Mary Barra’s recent trip to India, she participated in the rollout of the first Beat for export on Sept. 10. The Talegaon manufacturing facility has an annual production capacity of 170,000 vehicles and 160,000 engines.

So today on World Environment Day, Chevrolet India set up a Free Vehicle Emission Check camp at multiple General Motors offices across the country, including Gurgaon Corporate Office, Talegaon & Halol Plants, GMTCI & Chevrolet Authorized Workshops. At the camp, Chevrolet vehicles were invited to get their vehicles checked for pollution. Over a 100 Chevrolet cars went through the camp at GMTCI Bangalore alone.

General Motors India to Start Exporting Vehicles

Will initially export left-hand-drive Chevrolet Beat to Chile

New Delhi: General Motors India today announced that it will begin production of export vehicles at its Talegaon Plant in the second half of 2014, with sales commencing in Chile in the first quarter of 2015.

Its first export model will be the left-hand-drive version of the Chevrolet Beat. The fuel-efficient smart city car is already built and sold in many markets around the world.

“The start of Beat exports underlines GM’s commitment to India and demonstrates the quality of the country’s growing supplier base,” said GM India President and Managing Director Arvind Saxena. “The exports will create more employment opportunities within GM India and the supplier community while helping improve capacity utilization at the Talegaon Plant.”

Available with gasoline and diesel engines, the Chevrolet Beat is India’s most fuel-efficient hatchback and GM India’s best-selling model. Since its introduction in India in 2010, it has received a number of coveted honors, including the Car & Bike Design of the Year Award in 2010, NDTV Car & Bike India Green Award in 2011, NDTV Car & Bike Automotive Technology of the Year Award for its SMARTECH diesel engine in 2011, Bloomberg UTV Autocar Award for the diesel variant in 2011 and Car & Bike India Variant of the Year Award in 2011.

The ‘DMAi’ Awards conducted annually honor excellence in marketing and advertising campaigns that have raised the bar of originality, response strategy, interactivity and impact.

The newly designed Chevrolet India website is based on Chevrolet’s global standards. This is the second award received for the Enjoy’s pre-launch campaign, the other one being the coveted NDTV Car & Bike Awards 2014 ‘Best Integrated Marketing Campaign’ received earlier this year.

GM India Sponsors Students’ Education at Sankalp School

As part of its CSR initiative,  GM India has gone a step further in ensuring the development of the community where its operations are located. Mr. Arvind Saxena, President & MD, General Motors India, today handed over a Cheque for Rs 150,000 to the school authorities at Sankalp School for the education, meals & hygiene of One Class in the presence of other GM India senior leadership. The great initiative is a noble gesture to ensure holistic development of the impoverished children of the school.

GM India reiterated its commitment towards the school run by an NGO ‘Sankalp Welfare Society’ in Gurgaon. Apart from financial assistance, GM India has committed full support to the school in the future as well.

GMTC-I raises funds for Gunjur Government School

As a responsible corporate towards the society, General Motors Technical Center India (GMTC-I) in 2011 took it on itself to ensure education for the students of Gunjur Government School in Bangalore. GMTC-I raised funds for the school which was utilized towards providing infrastructural support along with ensuring adequate nutrition to the children of the school.

As part of GM’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, a yearly fund raising activity is undertaken to sponsor school kits which includes school bags, school shoes, stationery etc. for the students. The objective is to ensure that the basic requisites of students are met from time to time so that parents are encouraged to send their children to study rather than sending them to work at a tender age. Continuing with its initiatives towards this noble cause, this year GMTC-I will distribute the school kits to the school in June 2014 hence ensuring that the students get their new kits at the start of the academic year.

As part of CSR, GMTC-I aims to make education accessible to majority of the children in surrounding localities from underprivileged sections of society. GMTC-I has a committee of active employees who volunteer to host learning sessions, teach English and conduct science experiments for these children. The committee also organizes student visits to GMTC-I, hosts sporting events and fun learning events.

Apart from this GMTC-I also recently distributed indestructible One World Futbols to the students of Gunjur Government School which coincided with the annual sports day celebrations of the school.

The unique camp was organized across all the authorized Chevrolet workshops and the 3 day workshop saw 35,662 Chevrolet owners visiting the camp hence making the entire effort a grand success amongst buyers.

‘You First’ camp offered free 51-point vehicle checkup, free top up of lubrication vehicle oils, coupons with 5% discount on spare parts, 10% discount on labour and 25% discount on car care products, free top wash, vacuuming, tyre dressing and glass cleaning on all vehicle giving our customers old Chevrolet cars a fresh and re-furbished look. The camp even offered customers a free evaluation of their existing cars with attractive vehicle exchange benefits and witnessed many getting a feeler of the value of the vehicle. The entire idea of holding the camp was not only to run a check-up on the existing Chevrolet cars but also educating the owners on the “Do it Yourself” tips which will help them maintain their car at all times and without getting into the hassle of taking it to the workshop for minor issues.

‘You First’ camps by Chevrloet is an annual affair and is organized across the country with the sole aim of being in touch with the Chevrolet customers and keeping their cars up-to-date.

    The next page displays the ‘Total Service Cost’ along with the list of replacements that your Chevvy requires. The page will also show parts in the car that needs to be inspected at the service outlet.

Chevrolet India & OWF donate 70 Futbols to Gunjur School

Chevrolet India donated 70 One World Futbols to Gunjur School as part of a larger Chevrolet and One World Futbol Project initiative to donate 20,000 nearly indestructible footballs to marginalized and underprivileged children in India. The unique initiative is aimed at reaching out to the less fortunate children in India, especially those who cannot afford and maintain a football.

“Many of these children are growing up in less privileged circumstances where sometimes a game of football could lighten up their lives by teaching them the true meaning of team spirit and fair play,” said Edward J Sizen, Vice President, Engineering and Operations, General Motors Technical Center India.

“The joy that comes from playing football can help lift their spirits and replace despair with hope. Chevrolet’s founding sponsorship of One World Futbol Project is intended to spark a worldwide movement to give children a pathway out of poverty and despair with the benefits that fitness, sport and teamwork can bring – something we call the ‘Power of Play’,” added Sizen.

The Chevrolet-branded One World Futbols, delivered to the school in a Chevrolet Enjoy multi-purpose vehicle, brought countless smiles to nearly 700 children who can now enjoy the game of football as much as they want.

With the corporate social responsibility mission of “Driving a Better Tomorrow,” Chevrolet India is working with One World Futbol Project to donate a total of at least 20,000 One World Futbols to disadvantaged children across the country.  During the next few weeks, Chevrolet India plans to donate additional footballs in Talegaon and Halol, where its manufacturing facilities are located. As part of the unique initiative, Chevrolet India donated 91 footballs to Sankalp School in Gurgaon, Haryana — a school for disadvantaged children run by Gurgaon-based NGO Sankalp Welfare Society on 14 November, 2013.

The remaining Chevrolet-sponsored One World Futbols will be delivered through One World Futbol Project’s partner, Slum Soccer, to a number of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working with underprivileged youth in India. Slum Soccer is an India-based NGO focused on reaching out to the Indian homeless using football as a tool for social improvement and empowerment.

This initiative is part of Chevrolet’s three-year founding sponsorship of One World Futbol Project that pledges to place 1.5 million One World Futbols with youth living in war-stricken zones, refugee camps, disaster areas, and other underprivileged communities around the world. One World Futbol Project makes, sells and distributes the One World Futbol, a nearly indestructible ball that never needs a pump and never goes flat – even when punctured multiple times, making it ideal for use in harsh environments. The company’s mission is to make a meaningful impact by bringing the joy of soccer and play to youth around the world through the One World Futbol. The One World Futbol Project distributes One World Futbols to organizations working with youth in disadvantaged communities, where play can be used to teach life skills and foster social change. 

To date, more than 500,000 Chevrolet-sponsored One World Futbols have been distributed across five continents, bringing the power of play to over 17 million children.
