Chevrolet India donates 150 One World Futbols to Government School, Navlakh Umbre

blogImage‘Day of Play’ global initiative kicks-off in India to drive positive changes in nearby community

Talegaon: Chevrolet India today donated 150 One World Futbols to Government School in Navlakh Umbre as part of a larger Chevrolet ‘Day of Play’ global initiative that brings positive changes in nearby communities.

The ‘Day of Play’ aims to bring to life the concept that where there’s play, there are beautiful possibilities. The inaugural ‘Day of Play’, which kicks-off in India, will be undertaken by other Chevrolet markets globally through April 2015.

“Our focus is to help school children overcome barriers and unite through the beautiful game of football. Many of these children are growing up in less privileged circumstances where sometimes a game of football could lighten up their lives by teaching them the true meaning of team spirit and fair play,” said Arvind Saxena, President and Managing Director, General Motors India.

The Chevrolet-branded ultra-durable One World Futbols, delivered to the school in a Chevrolet Enjoy multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), brought countless smiles to nearly 1,500 children of the school who can now experience the game of football as much as they want.

With the corporate social responsibility mission of “Driving a Better Tomorrow,” Chevrolet India has been working with One World Play Project since 2013, donating over 20,000 footballs to the less fortunate children across the country and bringing about positive changes to the school children in the communities around where its facilities are located.

Chevrolet India in the past donated 91 One World Futbols to Sankalp School in Gurgaon, Haryana and 70 footballs to Gunjur Government School in Bangalore, Karnataka – both schools for disadvantaged children located around GM India facilities. The remaining Chevrolet-branded One World Futbols are being delivered through One World Play Project’s NGO partners.

The donation is part of Chevrolet’s three-year partnership with One World Play Project that pledges to place 1.5 million One World Futbols with youth in war-stricken zones, refugee camps, disaster areas, and other underprivileged communities around the world. In September 2014, Chevrolet reached a global milestone with the delivery of the 1 millionth One World Futbol donated by the brand.

The ultra-durable One World Futbol represents a breakthrough in technology for a recreational, multi-sport ball.  Designed to outlast any other inflated ball available today, the One World Futbol never needs a pump and never goes flat – even when punctured, making it ideal for use in harsh environments such as disaster areas, refugee camps, conflict zones and other disadvantaged communities where a traditional inflated ball doesn’t last.

Commenting on the occasion, Stephan Sonderman, Asia Director, One World Play Project, said, “Play enables hope, opportunity and optimism in the midst of dire situations. While the ball technology is unique, the real magic is not in the ball, it is what happens when children are empowered to play.”

“The ball is a tool that unlocks the human potential. Thank you to our founding sponsor, Chevrolet. Through our collaboration, we are fulfilling our mission to maximize the power of play and transform lives,” Sonderman added.

Chevrolet is the founding sponsor of One World Play Project. Together the companies have delivered more than one million One World Futbols around the world, bringing the possibilities of play to an estimated 35 million youth in more than 75 countries worldwide, including in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas.

The idea for the One World Futbol started with a spark of inspiration in 2006 when inventor Tim Jahnigen was watching news footage about refugee youth in Darfur playing soccer using a ball made from trash tied together with twine. In that instant, Jahnigen realized these kids had such strong, indestructible spirits that they deserved a ball that would allow them to play as long as their heart’s content. Jahnigen realized there was a global need for a ball that could withstand the harsh conditions often faced by youth living in refugee camps, disaster areas and other disadvantaged communities. With that spark of inspiration, the One World Futbol was born.

Chevrolet Sells More than 1 Million Beats Worldwide

600x250

NEW DELHI – Chevrolet has reached a big number in mini car sales, surpassing 1 million sales worldwide of the Beat which is known as Spark in foreign markets.  This demonstrates the growing acceptance of Chevrolet’s small car lineup attracting more people to the brand around the world.

“Chevrolet Beat, the most fuel-efficient diesel hatchback in India, has been appreciated for its technology and is increasingly selected by young buyers both in India and abroad,” said Arvind Saxena, President and Managing Director, General Motors India.

“Following its huge success in India, the Chevrolet Beat was subsequently launched in other parts of the world,” Saxena added.

The Beat was launched in India in late 2009. It continues to be India’s most efficient diesel hatchback with a mileage of 25.44 kmpl. Available in both petrol and diesel engines, it has sold more than 178,000 units in India alone.

Although it’s a small car, the Beat sports steering-mounted audio controls, height adjustable driver’s seat and an all new silver interior theme. The clear goal from the very beginning was to create a revolution in size and design despite the restrictions being a small car.

Today, the Chevrolet Beat is available in 71 markets worldwide, selling the most in South Korea, followed by the United States and Mexico. In the U.S. sales of the Beat are up 10 percent year to date.

Speaking on the achievement, Alan Batey, Executive Vice President of Global Chevrolet said, “Our small segment vehicles attract more new car buyers to Chevrolet than any other vehicles in the lineup, with more than 60 percent of buyers never owning a Chevy before.”

GM India recently started export of the car from its Talegaon manufacturing facility to Chile in South America. More export markets for the India-made Beat are under presently under consideration.

The Beat, along with the rest of the Chevrolet small car lineup, also attracts the youngest buyers to the brand. This year, sales of Chevrolet small cars have increased more than 9 percent for car buyers under the age of 35.

In 2014, the Beat was the only vehicle in the mini car segment to earn the IIHS Top Safety Pick designation. Lightweight, high-strength steels constitute 60 percent of Beat’s under body and 40 percent of its upper body. It is also used in the roof bow and B-pillars.

Earlier this year, Chevrolet sold its 3 millionth Cruze globally.

Miles to go: Protect your Chevy during the monsoon!

Monsoon driving tips

When it rains, it pours! While the monsoon brings with it much needed relief from the heat, it can also result in water clogged and flooded roads. In such scenarios, it’s always better to stay one step ahead of the weather conditions, so that you and your car don’t end up stranded in the rains. Here are some tips that Chevy owners should observe while driving during rough weather conditions:

1.      In flooded waters wherein the level is deep enough to submerge your exhaust pipe, consider taking an alternative route. Attempting to wade through deep water can ruin the electrical systems.

2.      If need be, drive slowly through water-logged areas and put the vehicle into the first gear before entering a flooded area.

3.      Avoid going full throttle while driving through a flooded area, as it may force water to enter the cylinders, causing serious damage to the engine.

4.      Driving through waterlogged roads gets riskier at night as gauging the depth of the water becomes difficult. On such occasions, check the level of the water against dividers, trees, pavements before going ahead.

5.      If the vehicle has broken down and is already submerged in flood water, one can shift the gear to neutral and apply the hand brake before exiting the vehicle. Ensure not to attempt to start the engine even once using the starter or push-start technique. This leads to damaging the engine as water present inside the cylinders cause hydrostatic lock resulting in breakage or bending of connecting rods (internal engine parts).

6.      In case of flooding, the driver should allow the water level to recede and get the vehicle pushed out of water in neutral gear and allow the water to drain out for some time. Avoid starting the engine and call a Chevrolet Authorized Workshop or Contact Chevrolet 24×7 Road Side Assistance 1800-103-8090 or Customer Assistance Toll free number 1800-3000-8080 for immediate support in towing away the vehicle to the Chevrolet workshop.

7.      For hassle-free repair of your Chevrolet vehicle, always keep the Insurance Policy document in a safe, easily accessible location. Note down the policy number to be accessed during the times of need.

8.      In case of Insurance Claim, keep some of the common documents that are required for claims settlement include, claim form duly signed, valid RC copy of the vehicle, valid driving license copy, policy copy etc. You can contact your Chevrolet Dealer for claim processing details.

Keep these few simple tips in mind and enjoy more miles and a better drive in your Chevrolet!

Chevrolet Surprises Two Children from India, Nine Others to Kick Off Manchester United’s Season

  • New Delhi children serve as mascots for match; Manchester United first team players wear name of their mascot on back of their shirt upon entering pitch
  • Just before start of match, players present the shirts as memento to mascots

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND – Chevrolet today added to the excitement of Manchester United’s Premier League season-opener by using the power of play to give Akash and Kshitij, children from New Delhi, India and nine other children from around the world a first-ever, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The global automotive brand surprised everyone by partnering with the club to have each first team player walk onto the pitch wearing a shirt with the name of their mascot on the back, including Akash and Kshitij.  Then just before the start of the match, the players presented the shirts as gifts to them.

“We brought 11 children from around the world to Manchester to let them experience  first-hand how the power of play can create hope, optimism and possibilities not just inside Old Trafford, but back in their communities as well,” said Tim Mahoney, chief marketing officer, Global Chevrolet. “Chevrolet’s partnership with Manchester United is about using the passion for this sport to make a positive impact around the world and inspire football fans everywhere.”

“Seeing the reactions to today’s historical moment from the mascots, players and fans was a perfect way to kick off Chevrolet’s first season as Manchester United’s shirt sponsor.  When it comes to bringing people closer to the sport, today we raised the bar,” Mahoney added.

Akash and Kshitij – along with the nine other children ages 10-13 from Brazil, China, Indonesia, South Africa, South Korea and the United States – were selected to serve as mascots due in part to their determination and ability to overcome a variety of challenges, and use of play to create hope, optimism and possibilities The opportunity to be a mascot is part of Chevrolet’s “What Do You #PlayFor?” campaign to bring football fans closer to the sport and spread the power of play around the world.  Each child’s story is featured at www.ChevroletFC.com.

“It was a pleasure to welcome all 11 mascots to Old Trafford and our players were proud to walk out onto the pitch with them today,” Manchester United Group Managing Director, Richard Arnold said. “In the two years since announcing its partnership with Manchester United, Chevrolet has embraced the club’s desire to connect with its 659 million global followers, coming up with new and exciting ways to do this. Today’s activity demonstrates their ingenuity at doing this and we helped capture the imagination of our fans around the world.”

Chris Smalling wore Akash’s name on his shirt; Darren Fletcher wore Kshitij’s name.  The other nine Manchester United first team players and mascot pairings were:

In addition to serving as mascots on Saturday, the children this week attended Manchester United’s famed Soccer School, met club legends, received a tour of Old Trafford, and more.

Since first announcing its partnership with Manchester United in 2012, Chevrolet has used football to spread the power of play worldwide, including donating close to 1 million nearly indestructible balls from the One World Futbol Project for use by more than 26 million youth in 60-plus countries in Africa, Asia, and the Americas.  Chevrolet also recently revitalized a pitch in Bandung, Indonesia, on behalf of a local organization that uses soccer to increase the quality of life for people living with HIV and drug addiction, and Chevrolet donated a pop‑up pitch and pickup truck and trailer to help transform gang-laden streets in Chicago into a place where children can play and learn life skills.

To celebrate its new, seven-year Manchester United shirt sponsorship, Chevrolet is inviting fans around the world to upload photos of themselves wearing a digital version of the new shirt at www.ChevroletFC.com.  Chevrolet also recently released a video on www.ChevroletFC.com featuring Manchester United players, legends and fans paying homage to the history of the club’s shirts that has attracted more than 10 million views.
